Anonymous said: Yeah I definitely agree with you about the things they do to cover up scandals and shit like that. But I don't think it's fair just to target Korea for being racist. We know all these stereotypes are wrong, but that's because we live where we're exposed to a lot of different races. Korea is completely different because the only diversity they see is what's portrayed on TV or on the internet

But that’s just it though, nobody’s targeting them for just being racist. And I mean, let’s be honest here, just because they fairly homogenous doesn’t mean they’re totally exempt from being called out when they do something racist. Half of their music they claim comes from the inspiration of black artists, so the whole “they’re ignorant of other cultures” argument really only goes so far, especially when I know for a fact people from overseas have been trying to explain to big entertainment companies why blackface and lots of things they do that are unknowingly racist are wrong, and yet it still happens. So yeah, there’s a certain leeway given in the fact that they aren’t directly impacted by different cultures and most of what they know is from media portrayal, but at the same time for a country that claims something like the ~Hallyu Wave~ there are certain things that you can’t just pass off as ignorance, and that’s where the anger and targeting comes from for international fans.
